Our
Story

Get to Know Us

RAISE Gambia (RG) was set up in 2011 as one of nine Science for Africa projects established in sub-Saharan Africa by the UK-based Institute of Physics. This continued until 2017, where RG was established as an independent charity.

RG aims to enhance science teaching and learning in Gambian schools through promoting the use of practical experiments in the classroom- something that is a rarity. This is achieved through workshops run out of our Lab in the Cab project.

We also have a dedicated, equipped teaching laboratory in The Gambia, as well as Teacher Development Workshops run by experts in teaching and learning from the UK, and locally. Furthermore, we operate a monitoring and certification process for schools, to reward the application of practical activities in schools

The work of RG has been welcomed and embraced by all involved: the teachers, the students and the Gambian Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
